Sunny State of Mind (& Body)
Did you start 2025 by saying "new year, new me"? Are you looking for tips on how to prevent golf injuries so you can play longer and stronger? Maybe you're just wanting a little more play, fun or energy in your life? Keep scrolling for some ways to shine even brighter this year. 🌞
According to the Convention & Visitors Bureau, "For several years in a row, the Gallup poll has named the Naples metro area the happiest community in America. While abundant sunshine and natural assets play a role, so does our way of life." Staying active, eating well, finding community, enjoying a good drink and feeling like you belong are all reasons to join a country club of Naples. These also happen to be some of the habits that help the world's oldest people thrive so long. They are part of the Power 9, a set of lifestyle habits based on extensive research of Blue Zones – longevity hotspots around the world. "Naples, Marco Island and the Everglades is part of the which is helping transform communities around the U.S. into areas where living healthy is easy."
Those of us lucky enough to call South Florida home are able to stay active and outdoors all year! There are so many mental and physical benefits to being in nature that even a quick walk can be transformative. If you're willing to wander a bit farther, try "getting your feet wet to explore the mysterious and strangely beautiful world of the cypress swamp in Southwest Florida." Whether you "call it a swamp walk…or the more mirthful 'muck-about,' within a 45-minute drive of [the clubs in] Naples [FL], you can be knee deep in the crystal clear water of a pristine cypress strand."
Getting outside more can also help you get (and stay) in the habit of applying sunscreen, wearing protective clothing and ensuring that you're well-hydrated, all of which are vital to golf injury prevention. While we know, and PGA of America reports, that "away from the course, a program of core strengthening, flexibility training, and strengthening can decrease the risk of injury, it's just as important to "[consider] general safety measures, which a lot of people forget."
If you're feeling like the basics are too basic, and you're ready to push yourself to new distances this year, Find A Race can help you discover your next adventure. This online network compiles a list of cycling, swimming, walking and running events, and you can search in the Naples area. Most races use entry fees to donate to a charitable organization so it's a win-win!
