Olde Cypress Women's Golf Leagues
The Club at Olde Cypress women's golf leagues teamed up in a tournament to benefit Champions for Learning, The Education Foundation of Collier County. With support from the membership and Stock Development, the tournament raised $20,000 and will go to support four college scholarships for deserving young women in Collier County.
The tournament honored long-time Olde Cypress member Maureen Russell, posthumously, who passionately supported Champions for Learning through volunteerism and financial contributions. In 2016, Russell was named a Champions for Learning Glass Slipper award honoree for her dedication and service to the children of Collier County.
Pam Boyd, Russell's fellow Olde Cypress member and friend said, "This year's Charity Day was a heartwarming celebration of Maureen. We honored her by supporting her favorite charity, Champions for Learning. The day was filled with joy and the satisfaction from realizing that even when the world seems upside down, success is limitless when people work together, have a heart for others and support a worthy cause."
The 13-hole golf tournament was planned in collaboration between Olde Cypress women's 9-hole golf league and women's 18-hole league. Over 70 women participated. After the tournament, golfers enjoyed lunch and cocktails at Greenside Café, where Olde Cypress members enjoy live weekly entertainment, outdoor concerts, and gourmet dining services.
"I'm proud to have known Mrs. Russell. Her generosity, kindness and advocacy efforts made a lasting impact on our community. This event showed us how truly supportive and community-minded our members at Olde Cypress really are," said Melissa Hansen, Director of Membership and Marketing at Olde Cypress."
